Cranberry Pomegranate Martini – Shaken Not Stirred
Cranberry Pomegranate Martini is a timeless Shaken Not Stirred cocktail made with vodka and a sprig of rosemary, perfect for everything from Thanksgiving to Valentine’s Day!
Holiday Martini Of Pomegranate And Cranberry
A pomegranate cocktail made with pomegranate vodka, the sweetness of cranberry juice, and a bright hit of lime makes a wonderfully festive holiday drink.
A Cranberry Pomegranate Martini shines because it brings together the tart snap of cranberries and the lush, jewel-toned sweetness of pomegranate.
This reliable cocktail is my go-to drink to serve from Thanksgiving all the way through Valentine’s Day.
Rosemary paired with cranberries creates a gorgeous garnish, along with a fragrance that keeps you reaching for another sip.
Cranberry and Pomegranate Make A Great Cocktail
The deep ruby shade of cranberries and pomegranate gives this cocktail its striking look, while also packing in rich flavor.
Pomegranate can be quite tart, and sometimes even a little bitter, so instead of using a basic simple syrup of sugar and water, I prefer making my own cranberry syrup by simmering cranberries, sugar, and water.
That sweet-tart cranberry note makes a better syrup and adds another layer of color to an already stunning pomegranate martini.
If you love cranberries, you’ll find plenty of cranberry recipes on my site, including one I proudly made for The Great American Recipe, with PBS.
Why Choose This Martini For Festive Occasions?
- A Beautiful Balance Of Flavors – Cranberries bring lively, festive tartness, while pomegranate adds a smooth depth and natural sweetness. Together, they create a refined flavor that’s refreshing, a little exotic, and never too sweet or too sharp.
- Stunning Color and Presentation – That rich ruby-red color feels elegant the moment it hits the glass. It looks especially beautiful in a martini glass, finished with a sugared rim, a lime twist, or a few floating pomegranate arils that glimmer like tiny jewels.
- Perfect For Holidays – Cranberry and pomegranate are both classic winter fruits, which makes this drink a natural fit for holiday gatherings. It’s a lighter, fresher alternative to mulled wine or eggnog, but it still brings plenty of seasonal cheer.
- Versatility – It works beautifully with vodka or gin, and you can also turn it into a mocktail with sparkling water or tonic. Add a splash of orange liqueur for warmth, or a little rosemary syrup for an herbal edge — it’s easy to make it your own.
A Shaken Not Stirred Martini Cocktail
James Bond is still the name most people associate with the phrase “shaken, not stirred,” more than any other cocktail line in movie history.
The phrase first showed up in Ian Fleming’s novels and later became legendary on film, where Bond orders his vodka martini with polished ease and perfect control. So many glamorous photos came out of the many 007 films.
Bond and ‘Shaken Not Stirred’
That short phrase became a byword for sophistication, and Bond in a tuxedo with a martini in hand set the standard for smooth confidence. Even people who’ve never watched the films know the line.
How Can A Film Change How People Order A Martini?
Before Bond, martinis were usually stirred, especially the classic gin-and-vermouth versions. His choice made shaken martinis feel daring and modern, appealing to a younger, more adventurous audience.
The Martini That Became A Cultural Icon
From ads to pop lyrics to late-night punchlines, “shaken, not stirred” remains one of the most quoted cocktail lines ever — a symbol of polish with just a hint of rebellion. Even James Bond would approve of this Pomegranate Cranberry Martini, shaken-not-stirred, since it’s perfectly suited for the holidays!
Pomegranate Makes A Great Martini
If any fruit works beautifully in both sweet and savory dishes, pomegranate does. Its sweet-and-sour nature makes it an ideal juice, easy to adjust with just a touch of sugar or salt.
Growing up with Mediterranean flavors in my home, pomegranate often appeared as Pomegranate Molasses in all sorts of recipes.
Pomegranate Molasses Instead Of Simple Syrup
As an adult, I quickly learned how to make my own pomegranate molasses and use it across many of my recipes.
- Best Short Ribs Marinade – you’ll want this mix of pomegranate juice, Aleppo pepper, spices, and red wine for ribs that turn out incredibly tender and fall right off the bone.
- Pomegranate Salad Dressing – Pomegranate Sumac Vinaigrette With Pom Molasses, a Mediterranean-inspired blend of sweet, sour, spicy, and tangy notes that works well on salads or as a marinade.
- Pomegranate Roasted Goose – for a holiday goose marinated in pomegranate molasses, garlic, juniper berries, herbs, and roasted until perfectly done. A Christmas Goose recipe Charles Dickens would admire!
- Persian Chicken Stew – a richly flavored stew made with walnut and pomegranate sauce, often pumpkin, and a mix of other aromatic spices.
Using pomegranate molasses as the syrup base in this cocktail would be just as delicious as making a cranberry simple syrup from scratch.
Describe A Cranberry Pomegranate Martini
In the elegant glass known as a martini glass, these bold flavors come together. The bowl may be delicate and small, but the flavors definitely aren’t.
- A little sweet-and-sour boost to either pomegranate-flavored vodka or plain vodka
- A simple syrup made from Cranberry Compote
- Infuse it with spices
- You’ve got everything you need for a great martini
Adding cranberries to a rosemary sprig for garnish makes this pomegranate martini feel especially festive, one James Bond himself would surely be pleased to drink.
Why You Should Shake This Martini
Unlike the classic martini, which is stirred for clarity, a Cranberry Pomegranate Martini really deserves a proper shake.
Both cranberry and pomegranate juices have a bold, tangy profile and a touch of natural thickness, so they need a little energy to blend smoothly with vodka and any liqueur you add.
Shaking with ice does more than mix the drink. It chills quickly, softens the sharper tart notes, lightly dilutes for balance, and aerates the cocktail so it pours with that frosted, elegant look into a chilled glass.
The result is a bright, well-blended martini that feels crisp, smooth, and ready for a seasonal toast.
Ingredients Spotlight
- Vodka – The clean, crisp base that lets the fruit flavors take center stage. Vodka adds just enough bite to balance the syrup’s sweetness and the juice’s brightness, giving the martini its classic smooth finish.
- Pomegranate juice – Deeply colored and naturally rich, pomegranate juice brings body, subtle sweetness, and a gentle tart edge. Its jewel-like color and silky texture make the drink as beautiful as it is flavorful.
- Cranberry juice, also used to make the simple syrup. This homemade syrup is where the magic happens. Simmering cranberries with sugar draws out their bold, tangy flavor and creates a luscious syrup with a ruby sheen. It’s the key to that sweet-tart balance.
- Lime – Fresh lime adds a zippy, bright finish that lifts the entire cocktail. It cuts through the richness of the juice and syrup, keeping every sip crisp and refreshing.
- Rosemary sprigs and fresh cranberries for garnish – A few cranberries in the glass or threaded onto a cocktail pick add a festive pop of color and a fun finishing touch. It’s seasonal, pretty, and the perfect final detail for this martini.
- Ice – It wouldn’t be ‘shaken not stirred’ without ice!
