Homemade Taco Seasoning

Greet your top homemade taco seasoning with this recipe. It’s created using everyday cupboard spices like chili powder, paprika, oregano, cumin, garlic powder, and onion powder. This blend comes together fast, is simple to adjust, and tastes better than anything you can grab from the store.

Why you will adore this recipe

After tasting this homemade taco seasoning, you won’t have to purchase store-bought packets anymore. It takes under 5 minutes to combine, and it’s made from items you probably already keep in your pantry.

I first prepared it when I discovered I was out of taco seasoning while making chicken quesadillas. Rather than going to the store (not my choice today), I put together a fresh batch at home since it’s really straightforward. Typically, one batch lasts me about a month.

This seasoning mix isn’t limited to tacos. It also works great in quesadillas, pasta, burritos, chili, soups, ground beef, rice meals, and even roasted or grilled chicken. In my view, tacos and burritos simply aren’t complete without a satisfying seasoning blend like this one.

Want another perk? You can clearly see what’s going into it. There are no bulk fillers, no extra chemicals, and no artificial ingredients. It’s budget-friendly, gluten-free, and made solely with spices you can easily say.

What you will need

Oregano

Paprika: smoked or sweet; I like smoked most because it gives a richer flavour.

Garlic Powder

Onion Powder

Salt

Cumin

Chilli powder: for a balanced kick, use it based on your preference—especially if you’re also adding black pepper to the mix

Crushed peppers optional

Cornflour: This one is optional too, and I skipped it that time.

How To Make Easy Homemade Taco Seasoning

Place every spice into a small bowl and stir until everything is evenly blended. Pour the mixture into a dry spice jar or a sealed, airtight container.

Use about 2 tablespoons (roughly 30g) of the seasoning for every 1 pound (450g) of ground beef, which matches one store-bought seasoning packet.

How to Store It

A homemade taco seasoning mix can keep for as long as 6 months. Just make sure to note the expiry dates for the individual spices so you can decide how long to store it.
